Brewing news India: Beer supply to Chandigarh to be normalised by June 05

The supply of beer to Chandigarh will be normalised by June 05 as four beer manufacturing companies have agreed to provide it at the old rates, Expressindia communicated June 04.

While Mount Shivalik Breweries that manufactures Thunder Bolt restored supply June 03, the remaining three companies: Millennium Bear Industries Limited, Devans Modern Breweries and Rochees Breweries Ltd, will follow suit by June 05, said Excise and Taxation officials.

The Wholesale Beer Licences of these units were suspended by UT Excise Department for their failure to maintain supply of bear to the city’s liquor retailers, leading to its shortage.

Sources said representatives of the these beer manufacturing units agreed in a meeting with the officials of UT Excise Department to give an undertaking for providing beer at the old rates of Rs 200 per case containing 12 bottles. The UT officials said licences would be revoked soon after the receipt of the undertakings.

While Millennium Industries manufacturers Kingfisher beer, Rochees Breweries produces Haywards 5000, Royal Challenge beer and Castle beer. Devans Modern Breweries Ltd manufacturers Godfather beer.

It may be recalled that these companies have been demanding an increase in prices from Rs 200 to Rs 300 per case of beer.
